ABOUT US
The best thing to compliment Travel is Coffee. Apart from being coffee lovers, we are huge travelers. Having scouted the globe in search of cultural experiences, it has been astonishing how coffee contributed in our journey each time. We soon realized, Coffee has a culture of its own.
Like many popular brands our beginning has been small. Curiosity and inquisitiveness around Coffee, its taste and the process from bean to cup fueled our passion and the journey. As we carry on learning new insights about coffee, its culture and the journey it has made across the world, we find it growingly impossible to keep the learnings to ourselves.
We chose our coffee to tell the story. We keep adding beautiful tasting insights, cultural influences on coffee and slowly giving back to the world or what we now call “the coffee community“. So whether you’re sipping URBAN BEANS COFFEE from your favorite mug at home or savoring that last drop at one of the local places that serve our brew, know that you’re part of our story. It’s not just about what is poured into your cup, but it is more to do with where it came from, how it was processed and how it got to you. It’s about the journey from the plantation to your cup.
THE COFFEE STORY:
The stories around the origins of Coffee are intriguing and many. Some of them are old village tales while some are interesting old folklore.
An Ethiopian Legend
Well, Coffee is grown worldwide and a traveler hears stories about its roots tracing back to ancient centuries of Ethiopian mountains. Legend has it, that a goat herder ‘Kaldi’ first discovered the potential of the worldwide cherished berries. Kaldi dozed off under a tree to wake and discover that after eating the berries from this tree, his goats became highly infused with energy. Jumping and kicking around they spent the next few hours keeping Kaldi guessing.
The word spread in the village and a local monastery. One day, they made a drink with the berries and found that it kept the drinker alert through the long hours. This discovery was soon with the other monks at the monastery, and knowledge of the energizing berries began to spread like wildfire through trade routes and travel trails.
As word moved east and coffee reached the Arabian peninsula, it began a journey that would bring these amazing beans across the globe to your cup one day.
